Gilles & Cecilie Studio have been commissioned to create visuals for a Nissan TV commercial in Japan.
The assignment was to work on a set design for the Nissan Dayz, acar launched in December 2015. The car as a specific auto-beam system for the headlights and the commercialshows how the headlights automatically dims when meeting another car and then goes back on full lights to discover a tunnel filled with artwork, installations and illustrations applied to its walls and ceiling to create magic.
G&C worked closely with director Luc Janin, represented by Pulse Films in London, throughout the whole process from idea, sketches to design and final implementation on site in Imabari, Japan. The artwork is partly painted directly on the walls and partly installed. The installation contain of more than 17.000 reflective paper squares stuck to the surfaces of the tunnel.
The reflective paper squares create a light portal to ressemble stars. The graphics stretches over 300 meters. It took about 1 week to install the artwork. This was made possible with the help of 20 people from the art production team.
