Gilles and Cecilie Studio have been commissioned by The Daily D to create 2 large scale installations for the gift and interior fair ( Gave & Interiørmessen/ Oslo Design Fair) that took place in Lillestrøm, Norway, end of January.
The brief was to create something bold and colourful. Sophisticated and Scandinavian. Photogenic and fun.Through idea process and research Gilles and Cecilie chose to focus on visualising Norwegian design classics and natural shapes. Nature as a theme came up early in conversation as it is highly visible inspiration for shapes, materials and stories in Scandinavian and Norwegian design.
The installation called Norwegian Design Classics have outline shapes of the designs making them somewhat two dimensional. Some easy to recognise and some more complex. Each of the forms have geometric and organic patterns painted on them to create a colourful composition when they are carefully composed and suspended in a cluster from the ceiling.
The installation Into the Nature is a collection of shapes from flowers to tree trunks and leaves. The patterns on them are graphic to reflect some of the shapes in the Design Classics installation.
Gilles and Cecilie have also designed way finding sails that direct the audience to the different halls as well as colourful banners that will hang alongside the main entrance.
These designs are inspired by the two installations and a merge of the two concepts together: both inspired by nature and Norwegian design classics.
The installations are made of cut MDF, hand painted using water based acrylic paint.
